National Library of Medicine
The National Library of Medicine (NLM), on the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, is the world's largest medical library. The Library collects materials and provides information and research services in all areas of biomedicine and health care. Link to PubMed and Medline Plus (both searchable databases of research abstracts) are featured. This site provides links to information and referrals on all type of health questions and conditions.
HealthCare.gov is a central database of health coverage options, combining information about public programs, from Medicare to the new Pre-Existing Conditions Insurance Plan, with information from more than 1,000 private insurance plans. Consumers can receive information about options specific to their life situation and local community. In addition, the website will be a one-stop-shop for information about the implementation of the Affordable Care Act as well as other health care resources. The website will connect consumers to quality rankings for local health care providers as well as preventive services. In addition to health insurance information, the site also provides materials on preventative health tests and living that is customized by age and gender.
Find a Health Center
This site provides the ability to search for a federally-funded health centers care that will provide care even if someone has no health insurance. People pay what they can afford, based on their income. Health centers provide well checkups, treatment when people are sick, complete pregnancy care, immunizations and checkups for children, dental care and prescription drugs, and mental health and substance abuse care if needed. You can search by an address or a city/county and will receive a list of providers with contact information.
